Capital & Counties Properties PLC (CAPCO) is a London property company with two key assets focused on Earls Court and Covent Garden.
Our challenge was to produce a stunning annual report conveying the quality of their property developments, with vibrant captivating image reproduction retaining lots of detail.
Black Sun, the design agency, required high colour consistency, accurate cross-spine matchups and smooth tints throughout the critically important maps, floor plans and charts, all within an exceptionally fast turnaround schedule of 5 working days.
We used ‘XD Screening’, a mixed screen technique we have developed. This allows a conventional 240# screen to be applied to the images to ensure a high level of detail and vibrancy, and a 21 micron stochastic screen to the artworks and tints. A conventional 200# screen was used for the Accounts section.
The stochastic screen produces the flattest and smoothest tints. However, most pictures are not of sufficient quality to be reproduced well using a stochastic screen. In most cases, images are better reproduced using a conventional screen. Our unique screening technique allowed us to choose the type of screening to be used on different parts of the page.
Image and plate profiles, and ink refined to achieve the best reproduction on coated materials, were used.
Extensive proofing included on-press machine scatter-proofs, and high resolution Epson proofs run to FOGRA standards. The cover and text were printed to ISO 12647-2 (2013) standard.
